Non-Traditional Job Hunting… Not Easy, but Highly Successful!
April 22, 2007
You see, the old-fashioned traditional methods don’t live up to most people’s expectations of what a successful job search should look like.
Most of us would like to be entertaining job offers in a matter of days, not months. And we’d like to have a say in what the job looks like. And, maybe we’d like to have two or three job offers on our plate so we could select the one that’s just right for us rather than picking through the leftovers . . . and then having to take whatever comes along.
You know what I mean if you’ve spent a lot of time tweaking your resume, and then mass distributing it to job sites like Monster and HotJobs. And to dozens of advertised job listings. Or shot-gunning it to a bunch of companies you’d love to work for. And maybe some agencies and recruiters.
If this is how you approach the job market, then you’re probably sitting around right now waiting for the phone to ring. Or hoping today’s mail brings an invitation to interview. And you’ve probably been waiting for something to happen for a long time . . . maybe weeks or months!
Just add up the number of hours you’ve spent doing all these traditional job search tasks. Now, what if I told you that for spending considerably less time you could be entertaining multiple job offers!
You need to redirect your energies to non-traditional job hunting strategies . . . they’re the ones that can get the job done. Now, I admit, these non-traditional job hunting techniques are not as easy as mass distribution of your resume . . . but, boy, do they work!
The reason is simple. Today’s sophisticated employers want more than your work history. Frankly, they could care less about what you used to do for someone else. You need to have a way to get yourself in front of a hiring decision-maker and show him/her how you can make a difference.
That means you have to do your homework. You see, the best job opportunities are not the ones that are advertised. They’re the ones that are created for you because you’ve been smart enough to find out what an employer’s needs are. And then come forward with a proposal (not a resume) that spells out how you can answer those needs.
These non-traditional job hunting strategies don’t come easy. But for the same (or less) amount of time as an old-fashioned traditional approach, you can be guaranteed results. Alternative job search strategies rule!

Job Hunting Success
April 10, 2007
For instance, if you are having a discussion with your prospective employer, then you should probably address issues like how you can help him or her become more successful. This is the only topic that will grab any attention as any other topic would be a waste of time.
You should always know your value as an employee before you actually begin searching for a job so that you can take control of the entire job-search process. Make sure to define certain goals for yourself. Once you have decided what you are looking for before you actually start looking for something, you will have the right clues as to where and when to start looking.
Any job search in order to find a job can be a daunting task. Be prepared to devote all your time and energy in this process. If you are presently unemployed, prepare yourself to spend at least 30 hours every week in searching for a job. If you happen to be employed, then prepare yourself for an “extra” job over the next few months until you find yourself a new job.
Tips for Effective Job-Hunting
Job hunting can be quite intimidating and stressful and can sometimes produce both depression and anxiety in an individual. It probably will take a lot of time for you to find employment, so it is advisable to start as soon as you can and patience is a must!
In addition, make sure that you have a specific goal, but still be prepared and flexible in your approach and your use of alternate options is sometimes necessary. While knowing what kind of a job you want is essential to your job search, you must also keep in mind that there is no guarantee that you will find what you are looking for.
There are loads of opportunities out there and plenty of help is available, so don’t ever be afraid to ask for help. Ask friends, associates, relatives and even career advisors for help. There’s no point in maintaining that “I can do this myself” attitude; the task is generally bigger than you can imagine!
Churning out hundreds of resumes is just a waste of time and energy. Employers receive millions of resume each day and this can get pretty annoying! Getting professional help when making your resume sounds like a good idea as this will help you stand out from the crowd.
Networking is absolutely necessary when you’re out searching for jobs. From job search support groups to former co-workers, bosses, and old classmates, there are many sources out there. Check internet job search engines as there are thousands of sites available.
Follow these few tips and you can rest assured that your job hunt will end up in success!

China Faces Unemployment Woes
April 9, 2007
The credit crunch could be blamed for the latest unemployment figures in China. They show a very grim future for workers, with a significant rise in jobseekers.
STORY:
After decades of seemingly solid economic growth China is battling falling demand for products, factory closures, protests and political unrest. Jobseeker numbers rose by 10.2 million in the first 10 months of 2008, exceeding China’s official projection for the entire year by two percent.
China’s minister of social security, Yin Weimin, says unemployment is expected to rise further in 2009, especially affecting small to medium enterprise businesses that have closed down or cut production.
Workers in southern and coastal China are left without pay and wait outside closed factory gates. Local authorities say they will pursue bosses who fled, but do not promise government compensation. This comes despite recently adopting a $600 billion dollar economic stimulus package to boost domestic demand, particularly in infrastructure and social projects.
China’s official urban unemployment rate is still about 4 percent, but could rise to 4.5 percent by the end of the year. But these official figures fail to reflect hundreds of millions of Chinese villagers who go to the cities to seek work.
Some local authorities fear there will be an increase in unrest among those who lost their jobs.
Large and medium companies are required to cut salaries before firing staff and seek local government approval before laying off more than 50 people. However, this rule is often ignored.
